Advertise Inside ChatGPT While It’s Still Cheap And Uncrowded
OpenAI has begun letting businesses advertise inside ChatGPT, and Australia is one of its first markets. I’m running an early-access trial for a small group of ecommerce stores, while it’s cheap, uncrowded, and still being figured out.

What's actually happening
ChatGPT Ads Are Rolling Out. Australia Is First In Line.
In February 2026, OpenAI started showing ads inside ChatGPT in the US, then opened a self-serve Ads Manager to all US businesses in May, removing the old $200K minimum and adding cost-per-click bidding. They’ve now confirmed they’re expanding beyond the US, starting with pilots in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The ads appear as a clearly labelled “Sponsored” result below ChatGPT’s answer. They don’t change the answer itself, and advertisers never see anyone’s chats or personal details. With billions of prompts a day from people actively researching and deciding what to buy, it’s a genuinely new place to reach high-intent shoppers.

Let’s Be Upfront About This One.
I’ve run Google Ads for ecommerce for over 10 years, so I can tell you almost exactly what to expect there. ChatGPT Ads is the opposite. It’s brand new, and I’m still testing it myself, so I honestly can’t promise results, benchmarks or a predictable cost per sale yet.
Reporting is still thin and attribution is messy. I see this as a smart, low-cost experiment to stake out a first-mover position, not a proven channel. If certainty is what you need right now, it’s completely fine to wait.
What we're testing right now
Nobody Has A Playbook For This Yet. So I'm Writing One.
Because this channel is brand new, I'm running my own experiments across every variable that matters, and sharing everything I find with you.
Cost-per-click strategy
OpenAI suggests $3–5 a click; I'm testing where the real sweet spot sits for your margins.
Landing page destination
Category page vs. product page vs. homepage, finding which converts the ChatGPT visitor best.
Context & targeting
ChatGPT matches on conversation context, not keywords, and I'm tuning how we describe your ideal buyer.
Multiple parallel tests
Several small experiments at once, so we learn fast, and I share everything I find with you.

Two quick things to know before we start
You’ll need to set up your own ad account at ads.openai.com. It’s quick, and I’ll walk you through it step by step.
Once your ads are built, OpenAI runs an approval process that currently takes around two weeks before they go live.
Why run it through me
A New Channel, Managed With Old Discipline.
The same transparency as my Google Ads service: you pay OpenAI directly for clicks, you own your ad account, and my flat fee covers management only.
Structured testing instead of set-and-forget. Every dollar of trial spend is buying you a lesson about the channel, documented in plain English.
Run by the same specialist managing your Google Ads, so learnings about your catalogue and buyers flow both ways.

FAQ
ChatGPT Ads: Your Questions, Answered Honestly.
What are ChatGPT ads?
Ads inside ChatGPT appear as a clearly labelled "Sponsored" result below ChatGPT's answer. They don't change the answer itself, and advertisers never see anyone's chats or personal details. With billions of prompts a day from people actively researching what to buy, it's a genuinely new place to reach high-intent shoppers.
Why advertise on ChatGPT now?
Because the auction is still thin. OpenAI's recommended cost per click is around $3–5 while few competitors are bidding in Australia, there's no minimum spend, and early accounts get to learn the channel before it gets crowded and expensive. That first-mover window is the whole reason for the trial.
Is ChatGPT advertising proven?
No, and I won't pretend otherwise. I've run Google Ads for ecommerce for over 10 years, so I can tell you almost exactly what to expect there. ChatGPT Ads is the opposite: brand new, reporting is still thin, attribution is messy, and I'm still testing it myself. Treat it as a smart, low-cost experiment to stake out a first-mover position. If certainty is what you need right now, it's completely fine to wait.
What does the trial cost?
A simple flat management fee: $500 + GST per month for ad spend under $5,000/mo (Starter), or $850 + GST per month for ad spend under $10,000/mo (Growth, which adds a wider set of parallel tests). Your ad spend is separate and paid directly to OpenAI. I never touch your ad budget.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. Because this is a trial, there's no long lock-in. You can pause whenever it stops making sense.
How does targeting work without keywords?
ChatGPT matches ads on conversation context, not keywords. Part of the trial is tuning how we describe your ideal buyer so your products surface in the right conversations.
How do we start, and how long until ads go live?
You set up your own ad account at ads.openai.com. It's quick, and I'll walk you through it step by step. Once your ads are built, OpenAI runs an approval process that currently takes around two weeks before they go live.
Want In On The First Wave?
Spots are limited while I keep the trial small enough to manage properly. If you’d like to be one of the first Australian stores advertising inside ChatGPT, get in touch and I’ll map out a simple starting budget and test plan for your catalogue.
